das buch: "how soccer explains the world, an unlikely theory of globalization" gelesen und will einfach mal ein zitate posten aus dem kapitel über american soccer.
"I think it is important for all those young out there, who someday hope to play real football, where you throw it and kick it and run with it and put it in your hands, a distinction should be made that football is democratic, capitalism, whereas soccer is a European socialst sport."
"Hating Soccer is more American than apple pie, driving a pickup, or spending Saturday afternoons channel surfing with the remote control."
"But Major League Baseball, let´s face it, has been a loser in globalization. Unlike the NBA or NFL, it hasn´t made the least attempt to market itself to a global audience. And the global audience has shown no hunger for the game. Because baseball has failed to master the global economy, it has been beat back by it."
"With so much relativism seeping into the American way of life, they fret that the country has lost the self-confidence to make basic moral judgements. Soccer isn´t exactly pernicious, but it´s a symbol of the US junking its tradition to "get with the rest of the world´s program."
Die Zitate erklären sich ja irgendwie von selbst, man sieht das es einige sehr nationalistische geprägten Persönlichkeiten gibt. Aber so stolz sie auch sind, sie haben fast die gleiche Menge an toleranz. PEACE
